He obtained his BA (Music), Classical trumpet as principal instrument; BMus (Hons) with distinctions in Music Education and Ethnomusicology; BA (Hons), cum laude; Master of Arts (MA), cum laude and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees from the University of Pretoria; Secondary Education Diploma (SED) and Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) from Vista University; as well as Primary Teachers’ Certificate (PTC) from Dr C. N. Phatudi College of Education; Diploma Supplement (DS); (Music Education, Ethnomusicology & Musicology); University of Jyvȁskylȁ, Jyvȁskylȁ (Finland); Grades 1-5 in Theory of Music, all passed with distinctions (Trinity College of Music in London, London, UK); and Grade 3 - Practical Examination (Trumpet), passed with distinction; University of South Africa (UNISA); He has also received his second Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Music Education, Ethnomusicology & Musicology from the University of Jyvȁskylȁ, Jyvȁskylȁ, in Finland. He is a prolific and dedicated researcher who wrote extensively on music, culture, and identity. As such, his work has proven to be a rich source of theoretical ideas for scholars in Ethnomusicology, Musicology, Music Education and African Traditional Thought.
