Abstract

Implementing Mandarin Chinese into the UK school timetable is causing a big challenge and change within the Modern Foreign Language department (MFL). This paper explores some of the issues related to this new change within the MFL department. It begins with the initiative and the context of the challenge and change. Then it reviews resistance and its resources to the change. The next part goes through how these barriers were overcame and the final part of the paper summarises some useful suggestions for those who want to implement similar change within a MFL department in the UK.
